Victrex launches VICTREX PAEK 3D printing filament

High-performance specialist PEAK and PEAK Victrex has announced the official launch of its VICTREX AM 200 filament and named it Chinese 3D printer manufacturer INTAMSYS as the first reseller.

The UK-based company developed the PAEK-based filament specifically for extrusion-based additive manufacturing to address the common challenges of 3D printing with traditional PEEK materials. Parts printed in VICTREX AM 200 should have a very high resistance to wear, temperature and fatigue as well as corrosion resistance to liquids / chemicals.

INTAMSYS, the first company to be announced as part of the filament fusion network proposed by Victrex, is believed to have tested the filament on a number of its additive machines including the FUNMAT PRO 410 which can process a variety of high performance materials such as PEEK, PEEK-CF, PEKK, PC and PC-ABS. According to these tests, the Victrex filament is said to have a higher strength in the Z-axis and a strength of up to 80% in the XY-direction compared to current alternatives.

Charles Han, founder and CEO of INTAMSYS commented: “Our test results so far have shown that the VICTREX AM 200 filament has better interlayer adhesion than other PAEK materials on INTAMSYS machines. Compared to unfilled PEEK, it is designed with slower crystallization, a lower melting temperature and a viscosity tailored to the filament fusion process, such as easier flow in the build chamber after leaving the nozzle. Higher outdoor flow (lower shear rates) also promotes interlayer adhesion and stability during printing. “

Han concludes that these properties result in improved layer adhesion, less shrinkage or warpage, and better suitability for material extrusion-based 3D printing compared to similar options.

Earlier this year, the University of Exeter also began working with Victrex PAEK materials on an EOS P 810 system to validate Victrex’s low melting point PAEK materials against SLS and material extrusion 3D printing processes.
