Nexeo plastics, a leading global distributor of thermoplastic resins, has partnered with a materials manufacturer covestro for the development and market launch of the new polycarbonate /ABS 3D printing Filament Addigy® FPB 2684 3D. This filament is available immediately through the Nexeo Plastics distribution platform.

The product sets the standard for performance by maintaining its toughness and UV resistance in environments with elevated temperatures of up to 122 degrees Celsius, and by enabling the printing of components for outdoor applications. In addition, the new filament is very easy to print and offers the opportunity for wider applications in 3D printing. Nexeo Plastics and Covestro underline this with a 250 percent larger Benchy that was successfully printed on the Ultimaker S3 printer.

The polycarbonate blend is available in black and white and in filament diameters of 1.75 and 2.85 mm. At the customer’s request, the PC / ABS portfolio will be expanded to include a wider range of colors this year.

Long-term cooperation

The development of Addigy® FPB 2684 was a collaborative effort. This resulted in a material that offers an extremely smooth surface while offering impact resistance and superior strength. Nexeo Plastics leveraged its extensive technical support experience and used test scenarios based on real-world printing requirements in the market to drive the development of Covestro’s Addigy® FPB 2684. Ultimaker helped develop the printing parameters for its Ultimaker S3 and S5 series printers, which are available for download from the Ultimaker Cura Marketplace.

“In recent years, Nexeo Plastics and Covestro have worked intensively on customer applications and material requirements for OEMs. This collective know-how forms the basis for the introduction of the product on the Ultimaker Cura platform in order to offer our customers the most convenient and reliable PC printing solution. “

– Patrick Rosso, Global Head of Additive Manufacturing at Covestro

“As part of our business growth strategy, we continue to invest in expanding our 3D printing product portfolio and support services,” said Paul Tayler, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nexeo Plastics. “Our collaboration with Covestro underscores our commitment to offer great products and to work with industry leaders to support a wide variety of users and manufacturing needs.”

Recently, in May 2021, Covestro too developed a glass fiber filled 3D printing material for 3D pellet printing.
