Breathe-3DP unveils new nylon filament

Phoenix filament in red, a nylon filament built for 3D printing and not customized

Breathe-3DP has introduced its Phoenix filament for those looking for a custom made nylon filament that simply raises the bar.

It was designed for 3D printing and was not adapted for that purpose. It combines the ideal strengths of toughness, heat resistance, and tensile strength to make a filament that is suitable for almost any purpose.

Breathe-3DP has worked hard to develop a filament that offers high printing reliability, smooth extrusion, and excellent bed adhesion. It also resists warpage and shrinkage, which are essential to the industrial process. So this filament could be the answer for trading companies where absolute precision and the quality of the final print are simply non-negotiable.

“Breathe-3DP is built on 46 years of experience in the formulation and extrusion of plastics,” said Brendan McSheehy, co-lead of the company. “We are passionate about providing high quality 3D filaments that offer great part performance, print reliability, easy printability and a range of vivid colors.”

Materials grow faster than printers

The market for 3D printer materials is growing even faster than the printers themselves and is the area that has possibly the greatest room for real breakthroughs. The printers themselves will get faster and the resolution will improve as we get closer to mass production, but the materials may offer the most headroom.

So far, the industry has focused on adapting traditional manufacturing materials as it responds to technology that is rapidly developing. Now the materials side of business is advancing and companies like Breathe-3DP are pioneering this movement.

Breathe-3DP is one of three entities within Universal Fiber Systems, LLC that have been in the polymer business since 1969. In 2014, the Virginia company devoted enormous resources to 3D printing, which led to the creation of Breathe-3DP. It started with high impact PLA ++, but now Breathe-3DP is working on a range of materials. This nylon phoenix filament is the second.

Six colors at the beginning, more on the way

The company offers more than 2,000 colors with its traditional manufacturing process, but with 3D printing filament it started with six colors. These include black, blue, red, orange, gray, and white.

These inks provide complete uniformity in the finished prints, and the pigments are also FDA cleared for food contact.

This filament has been tested on 40 of the most popular printers at his research and development center in Bristol, Virginia. This includes thorough testing of the finished product to ensure that it is suitable for industrial applications. The company made functional gears that pose a real challenge to 3D printed nylon, as well as a host of other complex structures, before this filament was launched.
