Additive Manufacturing: First High-Purity PVDF 3D Printing Filament

What appears to be the first high-purity PVDF filament for 3D printing of prototypes and small series is now available from Nile Polymers, Centerville, Utah. This innovative processor specializes in providing fluoropolymer products used in the chemical, biopharmaceutical and semiconductor industries. The company’s products are all based on Kynar PVDF from Arkema, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. The company’s products include Strong-Ty cable ties, Purisan mixers, and Fluorinar 3D printing filaments. Only limited by the bed size, Fluorinar-C can be printed using the FFS / FDM process and without any dimensional distortion.

President and Founder Howard Fisher said, “With more than 50 years of industrial use, Kynar PVDF continues to be known for its excellent chemical resistance, UV and ionization resistance, non-flammability and high temperature performance. With our family of products, Nile Polymers is building on the legacy of this Kynar PVDF product. ”

This latest addition to the Fluorinar portfolio – Fluorinar C Copolymer Filament is designed for large parts. Arkema sales engineer Gene Alpin said: “This new filament remains attached to the build plate during printing and has all the certifications expected from Kynar PVDF, such as USP Class VI, NSF 51/61 and FDA certifications. This is the first torsion-resistant material to offer these certifications. ”He sees it primarily for the use of prototypes and small series of parts such as clamps, fittings and container components that are used in various biopharma single-use applications.

Fluorinar-C is available in 1000 g spools with a 1.75 mm or 2.85 mm diameter with a tolerance of +/- 0.05 mm. Nile Polymers is offering a 5 meter sample of both sizes of filament to those interested in testing Fluorinar-C.
